Positive thoughts from Lockdown #6

Homeschooling, supermarket deliveries, group Zoom calls.

None have phased me.

But what to do with my hair...?! 馃槺

I'm beginning to look like a badger in negative.

馃専 So this is my solution: Brand-coloured hairbands!

馃敟 Which is your favourite? And how's your lockdown hair? 馃槂

In other news, it's been a big week 馃帀

I've had my business birthday, some fantastic feedback, and given away my most popular productivity tip so far.

To find out more, read on...

I am not a natural housekeeper.

(My motto: "have as much cleaning help as you can afford"...)

But I learned how to clean a house from the Flylady, an American cleaning guru.

And she taught me something EVEN MORE USEFUL:

馃専 the best anti-procrastination tool I know:

*'You can do anything for 15 minutes'*

It's only 15 minutes!

You can tell yourself, how hard can that be?!

So actually set yourself a timer...

...and get started 馃挭

At the end of that 15 mins you may want to stop.

OR now you're over that hurdle of getting going, you may find you can motor on.

At the very least, you've done 15 mins more than you would have done otherwise...

So if you find your motivation low, or you're procrastinating over something, set yourself a 15 min timer.

(And if you really want to get stuff done and you're already feeling motivated:

set a timer for 45 mins, then time a mandatory 15 min rest before you start again.

You'll be amazed at how much longer you can keep focussed if you give yourself those timed rests...)

I use this 15 min method for business admin, invoicing, and putting away the washing 馃槺

馃敟 What will you do with your 15 minutes ? 馃槂

2 years ago today, my 4 year old daughter pressed 鈥減ublish鈥 on my shiny new website.

Kirsten Goodwin Coaching was born.

A year before that, I was trying to work out what I wanted to do when my daughter started school 馃し鈥嶁檧锔

When I looked back at my years of senior management in the Civil Service, the thing I was proudest of was not...

馃殧 travelling in Tony Blair鈥檚 motorcade

馃嚞馃嚙 or representing the UK at international negotiations.

It was that I worked hard to mentor and develop my staff - and many left my teams on promotion 馃挭

AND I achieved what I did despite struggling with stress-related panic attacks and chronic fatigue...

馃専 This passion to help people succeed, without struggling with stress like I did, is what motivated me to train as a coach.

馃専 Now I look back over the last two years, and feel very proud of the clients I have helped achieve this.

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me on my journey over the last two years, especially my wonderful family 馃檹

And the biggest THANK YOU to my clients, for trusting me to help them achieve their dreams 馃専

I look forward to many more years to come 馃挅

馃敟 Why do you do what you do? 馃槂

馃専 This week, 2 of my clients were offered their dream jobs

馃専 2 of my clients have re-booked for more sessions

馃専 I've had lots of lovely feedback, including a new Recommendation (see my LinkedIn post to view it all)

馃専 and we had our first takeaway in 2 months last night (fish and chips, yum)

It's been a good week 馃槉

It feels to me like life is settling down a bit, as we have now adapted to the new normal:

...WFH, Zoom meetings, remote managing.

And it's clear the career opportunities are still out there.

We still need to take responsibility for working out:

鉁 what we want from our careers

鉁 how we can get it

鉁 and how to THRIVE while doing so - especially in this new normal 馃挭

My work/life balance has settled too, and I now have time for one new client.

Get in touch to arrange a free intro call to see how I can help you thrive in your dream career: or book into my calendar here 馃槂

Wishing you and your families a positive and peaceful week!

with love 馃挅
